Property & land PROPERTY DISCLAIMERS ENVIRONMENT & INFRASTRUCTURE NATIONAL GRID ELECTRICITY TRANSMISSION PLC NOTICE OF SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION UNDER SECTION 37 OF THE ELECTRICITY ACT 1989 THE ELECTRICITY (APPLICATION FOR CONSENT) REGULATIONS 1990: REGULATION 5 - PUBLICATION OF NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT UNDER SECTION 37 OF THE ELECTRICITY ACT 1989 THE ELECTRICITY WORKS (ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2000: REGULATION 9 PUBLICITY WHERE AN APPLICATION IS ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Notice is hereby given that on 26 June 2015, National Grid Electricity Transmission Plc (“National Grid”) made an application to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change under section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 and the Electricity Works (Environmental Impact Assessment) (England and Wales) Regulations 2000 for retrospective consent to install and keep installed above ground a replacement overhead line comprising: a single replacement tower (‘pylon’); ancillary foundation strengthening; and approximately 0.9 km. of conductors (‘wires’) at the Dwyryd Estuary, south of Penrhyndeudraeth and west of Pont Briwet in Gwynedd. National Grid owns and in part operates an existing overhead transmission line between substations at Pentir and Trawsfynydd which forms an essential part of the transmission system in North Wales both in the regional and GB-wide context. Following exceptional damage caused to an existing tower on the line, located within the Dwyryd Estuary, emergency works were carried out. The Dwyryd estuary lies within a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and partly within Snowdonia National Park. The emergency works involved the replacement of the damaged tower to ensure public safety and maintain essential electricity supplies, both nationally and regionally. The emergency works were carried out in consultation with statutory bodies and are now fully completed. For the avoidance of doubt, the grant of consent would not authorise further development works. National Grid is also seeking a direction that planning permission for the emergency works be deemed to be granted in accordance with section 90 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. The application seeks a fixed duration consent to 30 October 2025 to operate both circuits at a voltage of 400kV (400,000 volts), but initially for one circuit to be operated at the lower voltage of 132kV by S.P Manweb to maintain electricity supplies for customers living on the Llyn Peninsula. The application is accompanied by an Environmental Statement which presents an assessment of the environmental effects, the implemented and proposed mitigation measures and includes a Non Technical Summary.
