# CompaniesInTheUK

> An independent directory of every company on the UK register (about 14.6 million, live and dissolved), updated continuously from Companies House. Alongside the register it joins up data that Companies House does not show on one page: financial figures extracted from filed accounts, Official Gazette notices (insolvency, strike-off), director disqualifications, government contracts, charity and care-quality registrations, visa sponsor licences, gender pay gap reports and patents.

We publish facts from public registers, never verdicts: no credit scores, risk ratings or predictions about a named company. Data is for information and should be checked against the official register before being relied on. ## Reading a company

- [Company page](https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/tesco): `/ltd/<company-slug>`. The slug is usually the company name in lower case with hyphens and without "Limited", e.g. TESCO PLC is `/ltd/tesco` and MARKS AND SPENCER GROUP P.L.C. is `/ltd/marks-and-spencer-group-plc`. Slugs are not always guessable, so find the company with search (below) or by its number rather than guessing.
- [Company data as JSON](https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/tesco.json): add `.json` to any company page URL. Returns status, type, incorporation and dissolution dates, registered office, SIC codes, previous names, accounts due dates, up to five years of financial figures, officer counts, charges, Gazette notices with their kind, what happened after any insolvency notice, an AI-written summary and links to every section. This is the easiest way to read a company.
- By company number: `/company-number/<number>` redirects to the company page, e.g. `/company-number/00445790`.
- Sections of a company: `/company/<company-slug>/<section>`, where section is `financial`, `filing-history`, `gazette`, `control` (persons with significant control), `charges`, `people`, `related`, `pay-gap` or `analysis`.

## Searching

- [Search as JSON](https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/search.json?q=tamper): `/search.json?q=<company name or number>`. Up to 20 live companies, each with its page and JSON URL. Add `&dissolved=1` to include dissolved companies, or search `postcode:<postcode>` for companies registered at a postcode.
- [Advanced search API](https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/api/search/companies?sic=62&area=AL): filter by SIC code, area and incorporation window. Rate-limited per hour.

## Rules for using this site

- Personal details of directors and other individuals (names, dates of birth, addresses) are shown to subscribers only and are not in the JSON. For an individual's details use Companies House directly: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/
- Please cite pages by their `/ltd/<company-slug>` URL, e.g. "Source: CompaniesInTheUK, https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/tesco".
- Fetch what you need for the question in front of you. Bulk copying of the directory is not permitted.
