General Questions

Do I need to download anything?

No! If you use Claude.ai in your web browser, you don't need to download anything. Just add our custom connector URL in your Claude settings and you're ready to go.

Claude Desktop users will need the desktop app installed, but the custom connector itself requires no additional downloads.

Is this free to use?

Yes, the custom connector is free for individual use with reasonable rate limits:

  • Up to 100 company lookups per day
  • Up to 50 financial analyses per day
  • Up to 200 searches per day

For teams or heavy usage, please contact us for pricing options.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Not yet. ChatGPT custom connectors require Pro, Team, Enterprise, or Edu plans (not available on Plus). We're working on support and will announce when available.

Currently, this works with:

  • ✅ Claude.ai (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise plans)
  • ✅ Claude Desktop (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise plans)
  • ❌ ChatGPT (not supported)
  • ❌ Google Gemini (not supported)
What data is included?

Our custom connector provides access to comprehensive UK company data including:

  • Company details and status
  • Director and officer information
  • Financial statements (balance sheet)
  • Share capital details
  • Registered addresses
  • Filing history
  • SIC codes and industry classification
  • Incorporation dates
  • Company type and structure
  • Previous company names
  • Accounts filing status
  • 5+ years of historical data

Note: Currently includes balance sheet data only. P&L statements and detailed profit data coming soon.

Setup & Technical

Where do I find custom connector settings in Claude?

In Claude.ai (web):

  1. Click your profile icon (bottom left)
  2. Select "Settings"
  3. Look for "Connectors" section
  4. Click "Add custom connector"

In Claude Desktop:

  1. Go to Claude → Settings (Mac) or File → Settings (Windows)
  2. Look for "Connectors" and click "Add custom connector"

If you don't see these options, make sure you have the latest version of Claude.

What if I don't see custom connector settings?

The custom connector feature requires Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise accounts. If you don't see it:

  • Make sure you're using the latest version of Claude
  • Try logging out and back in
  • Check back in a few days - it may not be available for your account yet
  • Ensure you have a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise account (not available on Free plan)
The setup isn't working. What should I check?

Common troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the URL: Make sure it's exactly https://mcp.companiesintheuk.co.uk
  2. For Desktop: Did you restart Claude Desktop after adding the configuration?
  3. Test query: Try a simple query like "Tell me about Tesco PLC"
  4. Check connection: Make sure you have an internet connection

Usage Questions

What queries can I ask Claude?

You can ask Claude anything about UK companies. Popular queries include:

Company Information:
  • "Tell me about [company name]"
  • "Who owns [company]?"
  • "Is [company] legitimate?"
  • "What does [company] do?"
Financial Analysis:
  • "Financial health of [company]"
  • "Should I lend money to [company]?"
  • "Calculate ratios for [company]"

How accurate is the data?

Our data comes directly from Companies House and is updated daily. This includes:

  • ✅ Official company records
  • ✅ Filed accounts and documents
  • ✅ Director appointments
  • ✅ All public filings

The data is as accurate as the official Companies House records. However, remember that companies file accounts annually, so financial data may be up to 18 months old depending on filing dates.

Can I use this for commercial purposes?

Yes! You can use the custom connector for commercial purposes including:

  • Client research and due diligence
  • Credit decisions and risk assessment
  • Investment analysis
  • Sales prospecting
  • Supplier verification

For high-volume commercial use or team access, please contact us for appropriate licensing.

Security & Privacy

Is this secure?

Yes, the custom connector is secure:

  • 🔒 HTTPS encrypted connection
  • 📖 Read-only access to public data
  • 🚫 No ability to modify any data
  • ✅ Only accesses publicly available Companies House information
  • 🔐 No storage of your queries

The custom connector cannot access your Claude conversations or any other data - it only provides company information when specifically requested.

What data do you collect?

We collect minimal data for service operation:

  • Anonymous usage statistics (number of queries)
  • Error logs for troubleshooting
  • Rate limiting counters per IP

We do NOT collect or store:

  • ❌ Your specific queries or conversations
  • ❌ Personal information
  • ❌ Claude account details
  • ❌ Business intelligence or strategies
