How to find the largest employers in a UK town

Since 2016 nearly every set of filed accounts states average employee numbers — which makes "who are the biggest employers here" answerable from the register.

Company pages show headcount with history; sector league tables (example: housebuilders in Leeds) rank companies in each area, and "largest employer" standings appear on company pages where earned. For pay questions, the pay gap league covers every 250+-employee reporter.

Caveat: employee counts come from accounts, which can be a year or more old, and group employees may be reported in a parent company's filing.

Headcounts are from statutory accounts filed at Companies House; the ONS publishes regional employment data at ons.gov.uk.
