SHORESH ALI ABBAS (“Mr Abbas”) caused or allowed AE MOTORS BIRMINGHAM LTD (“AE”) to apply for a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) totalling £46,250 that he knew or ought to have known used overstated turnover figures in the application form. Consequently, AE received £26,317 more than AE was entitled to from the BBL scheme. In that: • He was a director of AE. • AE applied for a BBL of £46,250 that was received into AE’s bank account on 30 November 2020. The loan terms allowed AE to apply for a loan up to 25% of the annual turnover of the company in the calendar year 2019, up to a maximum loan amount of £50,000. • On the BBL loan application AE’s turnover was stated as being £185,000. • Accounts produced for AE for the period 22 December 2017 to 31 December 2018 showed turnover of £88,566. Accounting records for AE have not been delivered up to determine AE’s turnover for 2019 after taking into account VAT. Bank receipts for 2019 were £85,891, of which £79,733 was possible turnover which would have allowed for a maximum BBL of £19,933. The BBL obtained by AE of £46,250 was £26,317 in excess of the amount AE was entitled to. • At the date of liquidation on 24 August 2021 the BBL remained unpaid.
