Benjamin Boothman (“Mr Boothman”) caused or allowed Abrahams Pocket Ltd (“AP”) to apply for a £50,000 government backed Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) on 08 May 2020, when it was not eligible to do so. As a result the company received BBL funds that it was not entitled to. In that: • Under the BBL scheme, businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of its turnover. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019 or where a business was established after 1 January 2019 it is their estimated turnover from the date they started their business. • The company was incorporated on 22 December 2016 and was therefore not entitled to estimate its turnover for the purpose of obtaining a BBL. The unaudited accounts for the year ending 31 December 2019 show a turnover figure of nil. • The minimum turnover for calendar year 2019 to be eligible for a BBL was £8,000. Therefore, the company did not meet the eligibility criteria for obtaining a BBL. • On 08 May 2020, an application form was completed on behalf of the company for a BBL of £50,000. It stated that the company’s annual turnover was £465,352. The £50,000 BBL was paid into the company bank account on 12 May 2020. • At liquidation on 04 February 2025, £47,262 of the £50,000 BBL remained outstanding.
