On 14 June 2020 Mr Paul Rowe (“Mr Rowe”) caused The Geordie Stottie Ltd (“Geordie Stottie”) to apply for a government backed Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) when he knew, or ought to have known that the company did not meet the eligibility criteria for a BBL of that amount in that: Under the BBL scheme businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% turnover. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019, or where a business was established after 1 January 2019, it was the estimated annual turnover from the date the business started. Geordie Stottie was incorporated on 4 April 2019. Mr Rowe made an application for a BBL of £50,000 on behalf of Geordie Stottie on 14 June 2020 stating a 2019 calendar year turnover of £260,000. The funds were paid into the company account on 15 June 2020. Company accounts for the year ending 30 April 2020 show a turnover of £17,001, allowing a maximum BBL entitlement of £4,250. At the date of liquidation on 23 August 2022, £50,000 remained outstanding in respect of the BBL.
