From 01 May 2019 to 01 September 2022 (date of Liquidation), Mr Saifur Alam (Mr Alam) failed to ensure that Zara’s Novelties Limited (Zara Novelties’) maintained and/or preserved adequate accounting records, or in the alternative failed to deliver up such accounting records as were maintained to the Liquidator. As a consequence, it has not been possible to:- • Determine in the absence of adequate sales invoices or other supporting documentation the sources of all credits into Zara Novelties’ bank account in the period 01 May 2019 to 19 May 2021 (date account closed) totalling at least £109,702.18 (excludes Bounce Back Loan (BBL) of £30,000 and payments returned unpaid) and in particular, whether these credits account for all sales. • Determine in the absence of adequate purchase invoices or other supporting documentation the reasons for payments made from Zara Novelties’’ bank account in the period 01 May 2019 to 19 May 2021 totalling at least £141,834.32 (excludes bank charges and payments returned unpaid) and in particular, to verify that this was legitimate company expenditure. • Determine that the £30,000 BBL funds, received on 07 May 2020, were used for the economic benefit of Zara Novelties. • Determine Zara Novelties’ sales from (at least) 16 July 2020 to 01 September 2022 without appearing to operate active bank accounts and how Zara Novelties’ takings were accounted for. • Establish the accuracy of the statement of affairs lodged in the Liquidation. • Verify the reasons for Zara Novelties’ failure.
