Sally Elizabeth Allister ("Mrs Allister") allowed GF Foods to submit VAT returns to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) which I now know to be materially incorrect claiming VAT refunds of at least £711,277 which GF Foods was not entitled to. In particular:<br>GF Foods submitted VAT returns to HMRC for the 2 years ending 31 March 2015 and 2016 claiming VAT refunds of £354,724 and £356,553 respectively (total £711,277).<br>The VAT returns included figures for sales and purchases which were significantly in excess of the sales and purchase figures shown in the professionally prepared accounts of GF Foods for the same years: o For the year ending 31 March 2015 the VAT returns show total sales of £3,261,086 and total purchases of £2,570,122 whilst the professionally prepared accounts, approved by the directors on 22 January 2016, show total sales of £668,391 and total purchases of £585,045. o For the year ending 31 March 2016 the VAT returns show total sales of £3,418,328 and total purchases of £2,663,799 whilst the professionally prepared draft accounts show total sales of £608,668 and total purchases of £517,342.<br>All VAT refunds (total £711,277) were paid into the personal bank account of the Director, which were the bank details included in GF Foods' application for VAT registration (Form VAT 1).<br>In the 9 month period from 01 April 2016 to 31 December 2016 the pattern continued: GF Foods submitted VAT returns which show total sales of £2,645,137 and total purchases £1,998,505 and claiming VAT refunds totalling £271,611 which were also paid into the personal account of the Director. No professionally prepared accounts were prepared for this period.
