On 10 June 2020, Sean Martin (“Mr Martin”) caused or allowed Cmfx Trading Ltd (“CMFX”) to apply for a Bounce Back Loan (BBL) of £50,000 using overstated turnover figures in the loan application form. Consequently, CMFX received at least £23,519 more monies than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. In that: On 12 June 2020, CMFX obtained a BBL of £50,000. A business could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of its turnover for 2019. Accounts for CMFX show its turnover for the year ended 28 February 2019 to be £33,310, the accounts were signed by his co-director on 15 November 2019. Accounts for CMFX for the year ended 28 February 2020 show its turnover to be £105,926. Therefore, the company was entitled to make application to borrow no more than £26,481. By making application to borrow £50,000 the company borrowed at least £23,519 more than it was entitled to. CMFX ceased trading on 26 November 2021 and on 10 December 2021, it entered into creditors’ voluntary liquidation with assets of £Nil and liabilities of £50,000 being the monies owned in respect of the BBL.
