From 7 February 2016 to August 2018, Steven White, (“Mr White”) caused Job Link Recruitment Limited (JLR) to trade to the detriment of HM Revenue and Customs, (“HMRC”) in respect of Value Added Tax (VAT) resulting in liabilities of £130,116 in the Liquidation. • HMRC information shows that the company submitted eight VAT returns for quarter ending December 2015 to quarter ending December 2017 with resulting liabilities of £95,432, including surcharges of £9,031. No payments were made against these liabilities. • HMRC raised assessments for quarters ending March 2018 and June 2018 resulting in further liabilities of £34,684, including surcharges of £4,524. No payments were made against these liabilities. • On 26 March 2018 HMRC issued Winding Up warning letters to the company. In August 2018 JLR ceased trading. • On 29 August 2019 HMRC issued Winding Up petition, however the company was put into voluntary Liquidation on 08 October 2019. Comparative Treatment • Returns filed by JLR for the quarters ending December 2015 to December 2017, declared income of at least £432,000, none of which was paid to HMRC in respect of VAT. • At liquidation HMRC were the only creditor, with £130,116 owed in respect of VAT.
