ROSSENDALE BOROUGH COUNCIL
NOTICE UNDER THE TOWN & COUNTRY PLANNING ACTS
TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1990 (AS AMENDED)
PLANNING (LISTED BUILDING AND CONSERVATION AREA) ACT
1990 (AS AMENDED)
DESIGNATION OF CONSERVATION AREAS
Notice is hereby given that Rossendale Borough Council, in
pursuance of Powers under section 69 of the Planning (Listed
Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 (as amended), has
designated one extension to the Bacup Town Centre Conservation
Area. The Bacup Town Centre Conservation Area includes Waterside
Mill and adjoining Alderside Mill on Burnley Road.
The objective of designation is to preserve or enhance the character
and appearance of areas of special architectural or historical interest,
to control developments in such areas and to stimulate and
encourage measures to improve the environment. The primary effects
of the conservation area status are that demolition of relevant
buildings is brought within the Council’s control and consent must
first be sought from the planning authority: and that it becomes an
offence to cut down, lop or carry out any other works to certain trees
within the area without proper consent from the planning authority,
and that planning applications for development which, in the opinion
of the planning authority, would affect the character or appearance of
the conservation area, must be advertised.
Plans showing the area are available for public inspection on the
Councils website and during opening hours (09.00 to 17.00) at The
Business Centre, Futures Park, Newchurch Road, Bacup, Rossendale
OL13 0BB.

by Sheffield City Council. The Secretary of State gives notice of the
draft Order under Section 253 (1) of the 1990 Act.
Copies of the draft Order and relevant plan will be available for
