Most of the community’s efforts were spent challenging this decision. The director (Helen Thomas) started a petition to ‘SAVE THE ZONE’ which collected over 1,000 signatures from the community which helped to galvanise support from the local MP, support from Cornwall Council and media coverage (including the BBC). In November 2025, the Methodist reversed their decision and the ZONE was secured and purchased as a community asset. Without this venue, no creative writing workshops, film screenings or theatre events could take place
